Supercars of the ’90s, a Porsche GT1, and a Museum Guard Who Got It

At the Louwman Museum in The Hague, I visited the exhibition Supercars of the ’90s with one goal in mind: make something special with my model cars and a few all-time great machines. One of the stars was the Porsche 911 GT1 ’98, which I photographed with a 1:43 Ixo model. That alone made the trip worth it.

Museums can be tricky places for photography. Beautiful cars, yes. Great light, not always. I also tried making photos with a police Porsche 356 from Minichamps, but that part of the museum was simply too dark to get the result I wanted. Sometimes the car is perfect and the light behaves like a sulking goblin.

One of the best parts of the visit was an older museum guard who loved what I was doing. He kept talking to me about the hobby and seemed genuinely fascinated by the mix of real cars and scale models. That made the whole visit even more memorable.

Good cars help. Curious people help too.
