Today I was back at the circuit in my hometown: TT Circuit Assen. That already makes a visit special, but this one got even better because I was invited to spend time with a group of racers and given the freedom to photograph their Porsche 944 race cars up close. For a Porsche fan with a camera and a pocket full of model cars, that is a very good combination.
I photographed these racing versions with a small 1:64 Sparky Porsche 944 in Shell livery. It is part of a racing model series from Sparky, and I already have most of them in my collection. That made this shoot extra fun, because the little model really matched the spirit of the real cars on track. Raw, focused and built to race.
There is something great about photographing race-prepared 944s. They may not always get the same attention as some of the bigger Porsche icons, but on a circuit they look completely at home. Low, purposeful and full of character.
The best part is that an exact 1:64 model of the pink and white 944 is coming out soon. So yes, I may need to come back next year and do it all over again.
