Some days stay with you. This was one of them.
I had the privilege of visiting Johan-Frank Dirickx of 911 Motorsport in Belgium, and calling it a “collection visit” would do it a disservice. This was passion, shared. Three hours of stories, cars, and a generosity that I’ll carry with me for a long time.
Johan-Frank gave me complete freedom to photograph my scale models alongside his real Porsches. Nothing was off limits. I could place the miniatures right on the cars themselves, while he stood beside me telling the stories behind each one. That trust, that openness, made every frame I shot feel like a small celebration.
The Porsche 911 R was there. The GT3 RS 4.0 too, and I had made sure beforehand that my Minichamps model wore the correct wheels for the occasion. And then, parked like it was waiting for me, my dream car: the Carrera RS 2.7 in yellow. Next to it stood another in white and green. I photographed with both. Two different liveries, one legendary shape, and behind every single car a story that, honestly, was almost more captivating than seeing the car itself.
The lunch invitation was something I accepted with both hands. More time, more stories, more Porsche knowledge poured generously across the table. And then came the line I won’t forget. Johan-Frank, talking about his cars: “Keep them dry, give them water, and they’ll grow on their own.” Spoken like a true caretaker of legends.
The full photo series will be coming to the site over the next few weeks. Each one tells a piece of this day.
Johan-Frank, thank you. For your time, your stories, and most of all for sharing your passion so openly. Days like this are the heart of why MiniFlatSix exists.
